I'd like to deploy the 8.5.3 Extension Library to 8.5.3 servers using the updatesite database method described here:

http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/ddwiki.nsf/page.xsp?documentId=E7E9DE202F04800285257921003A0DB2&action=openDocument

I was merrily following the directions until I got to this part:

"For the Extension Library this is located in the updateSite.zip file, which when extracted will contain two folders, ‘features’ and ‘plugins’, and the site.xml."

Where do I get a file called UpdateSite.zip for 8.5.3 Domino server?  The directions skip right on by that point.

Googling is bringing up signs that there might be an UpdateSite.zip file somewhere on the openntf site -- I haven't gone there to look for it, because this IBM page says *not* to use it:

http://infolib.lotus.com/resources/domino/8.5.3/doc/designer_up1/en_us/DominoDesignerXPagesExtensionLibrary.html#Admin

"However, an http://extlib.openntf.org install is not supported. Applying the upgrade pack to 8.5.3 is the recommended process unless experimental features are desired. "

Re: updateSite.zip
Randal,

Download the latest release of the Extension Library from http://extlib.openntf.org. Unzip the ZIP file: in it you'll find the updateSite.zip file.

You'll have to upload the updateSite.zip file to the updatesite.nsf database.

Note that you might get an error if you have the Notes and Designer client running while trying to perform the upload. In that case: close both, start the Notes client (only) and try again.

Re: updateSite.zip
Mark, are you sure, because as I copied above from IBM, they went out of their way to specifically say that's not supported for 8.5.3 server.....

Randal,

Yes I'm sure and the response from IBM is correct.

Regarding the installation of the Extension Library you have 2 options:

1. Download the latest version from extlib.openntf.org and install that.

2. Upgrade your server using a (by IBM provided) update/ installation file to version 8.5.3 Upgrade Pack 1. After the upgrade your Domino server version has changed and the extension library is available.

Upgrade pack 1 is an addition to the Domino 8.5.3 containing a release of the extension library that is officially supported by IBM. The version you download/ install from the OpenNTF site isn't supported by IBM.

BTW: I just re-checked the downloaded extension library zip file from OpenNTF and the filename isn't updatesite.nsf anymore, it is updateSiteOpenNTF.zip.

Re: updateSite.zip
I happened to install Notes 8.5.3 designer on a computer tonight, and I noticed that when it unpacked the files, to get them ready for install, there was a big mother of a file called UpdateSite.zip in the folder that the files were unpacked in.

I wonder if I can use that? Might give it a whirl.

I hopefully have a video coming soon that shows the designer and server install.

When IBM says that "extlib is not supported". it doesn't mean it won't run.  It just means don't call them for help on it.

But quite honestly I think extlib will give you better "support" then the official upgrade pack.  but that's just my opinion.
